Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Coaches, I just purchased the "Option on Me" video and found it to be very helpful. It has certainly given me a new perception on option football. I have a few years experience running the veer option, but we would only run it to a 2i tech (4-3 defense) because I found it to be a little difficult to run the play when the DT widens out to a 2 or 3 tech. So I guess my question to all of you coaches who are familiar with the veer option is, how do run the veer option to the open side 2 and 3 tech vs. your base 4-3 with your backers stacked inside the box (no invert)?

When running inside veer to a three tech. this becomes your worst case scenerio. Must practice your fullback reading the 3 or 2 tech. If either widens the fullback must be able to cut backside of the 3 tech. Because of the 3 tech openside thats why I came up with option on me because you probably have a better play running towards the tight end. Coach Campbell
In your "Option on Me" video you don't mention anything about "not running the veer to the 3 tech side". You do mention that the first thing your QB needs to look for is outside invert to the open tackle side. You mention that if there is no outside invert there, than run the veer option. Do you also school your quarterback and tell him, "if there is no outside invert to the open side tackle that you must also make sure that you have a 2i tech to the openside as well"?
Thanks for your earlier response Coach Campbell.

P.S. Just ordered your Load option video and your kicking game manual. Can't wait to receive them!
We have also run this play to a 3 tech with a deuce on the 3 tech to Will. If will fills A Gap, Guard is on will, tackle overtakes the down man. Will is usually in the A gap if you have a 3 tech. We also check to midline vs. a 3 tech open side. Can also bring TE in motion to track will if flows over the top of the deuce on 3 tech.
We will also run to the 3, depending on personnel. If you have a 3 you will probably have a 7 on that side. This will almost always mean "Give". We call for a pure double team-driving the 3 down the line. This is the only time in our blocking schemes that we teach the O-Linemen to drive down the line and not up to the 2nd level. When the G and T make this call it alerts the A Back or TE to seal. Therefore when we run IV to a 3 our scheme would be 12/13 Deuce Seal. The FB needs to hug the Double Team and then get exactly verticle.
We prefer to run the inside veer to the 3 technique as opposed to to a 5-9 which we see on our te side. We double combo the 3 technique and try to drive him into the lap of the LB - chip late, climb never chase. I like the idea of the FB reading the 3 technique but haven't incorported it. We tell our FB to hug the double then push outside. We see all 5-3 or 5-2 from our opponents and we run a lot of veer to the open side if we get reduction. To a non reduced side the 5 or 4i always takes dive and the DE has QB. We will take the PST to the LB - the TE usually has a block call and blocks the DE out if possible(we infulence him to widen then lock up and drive him out). this becomes give or keep to the TE side. Would like to know what people do to attack these defenses.
