Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have heard a lot of good things about various 7 on 7 passing leagues, but I am not sure how they are run. Which players are on the field? What are the rules that are used? Field length? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
What we do here is we have 7 on 7. No linemen, no running plays. We play half the football field and every 20 yds is a first down. We go for 15 min at a time. So the game lasts an hour. You score as many times as you can in that fifteen min. The passer has 4 sec to throw the ball. I know during a game he probably won't have that long, but that is how we do it. It is very good for qb and WR timing as well as coordinating your Pass Defense. You have to be careful and make sure your D is playing the play coorectly, we play against some teams whose LBs don't bite on the Play Action cause they know we there is no running, We make our bite so as to simulate what would happpen in a game.
The league here is similar. We only have 3 downs to get a first down (20 yds). There are 6 offensive players vs. 7 defensive. The 7th offensive player can be your center, but some teams play without a center. You see everything from Empty sets on offense to 2 deep- man under on defense. The one negative I find from 7-on-7 is offenses that stray from things they'll never run and freelancing by WR's to get open. You don't see it much, but it happens. Otherwise, I think it's a very positive thing. It helps develop young QB's and WR's timing, technique, and understanding of the passing game. As for scoring, there is six for a TD, one for an XP, and two for an INT. We play 20 minute halves, with the clock stopping during the last 2 minutes of each half for incomplete passes. Besides the obvious things that are learned from 7-on-7, young players get a chance to really see the difference in speed and alertness of varsity players. They know that they have to work that much harder to compete in the real season.
