I am still stunned from a meeting our staff had this morning with our district personnel director. She 'enlightened' us about No Child Left Behind (NCLB). I am in the Special Ed department at my site and we just found out that we all have to have a credential in the subject we teach. I know for some this may sound obvious, but in California we have been able to teach any subject in special ed with our special ed credential. Now, most of us are not NCLB compliant and will not be able to teach (in our current assignments)until we gain a credential (either through course work or subject matter testing) for EACH subject we teach.
I have a BA in Behavioral Science, an MS in Special Ed, a credential in Special Education (k-12), and a Single Subject Credential (7-12)in Health...But am not qualified enough to teach in my current assignment (RSP Math, RSP Alg A & B). WOW.....what a way to start the holidays......
I just wondered how many others out there are in the same boat.
A small piece of advice. Get together with your district credential guru and find out where you stand.

I'm orginally from california and moved to Texas to coach and "No Child Left Behind" is our bases for how we approach our testing and teaching. Very wise to be certified in several different areas. Coach CAmpbell
Coach, I found myself in a similar position a few years ago, I found that what I was teaching in Nebraska, I couldn't teach in Iowa, I had to take 40 hrs in four summers, check your options and think carefully about what you want to do. Will it be worth the time, effort, and money. My best to you
