Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
1. What kind of blocking action do you run upfront? On a Draw, we run 5-step "cup" protection for a 1/1000 count, inviting the rushers outside and allowing the LB's to drop, then fire out into our blocking assignments. On our lead, we "part the sea" and double team from the POA, leaving the playside LB to be blocked by the lead back. Do you show pass, then fire out? Do you leave the PSLB alone?
2. What type of backfield timing and steps are involved? We would run it from the I or "offset FB" I formations.
3. What are the most effective playaction passes off of this look. We generally run 1 TE and 2 WR look, but we can run multiple receiver sets with the 2 back look.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm looking to add this play to our package next year. It should be a good fit for our personnel.
We changed our scheme on our draw play this fall and had good succes with it - we turn out on play side with the tackle takin emol, and the guard taking the number 2 lineman. If we saw 3 lineman on the playside we man blocked. We see 5-2, and 5-3 exclusively so this scheme was good. The center and backside guard combo the nose and the backside LB. The FB has the Playside LB. Vs 5-3 we ran it toward twins with the OLB walked out on the #2 receiver. FB lead on the MLB and we scooped the nose. We also would fold the TE under to the OLB if we ran it to the TE side. This is effective vs 5-2's. A lot of times the play cut back behinde the scoop of the nose. We tried to run it away from a 1 shade if possible. Vs 4-3 fronts we would run it to the TE side and fold the TE under the tackle's out block on to thw OLB(4-3). Looked enough like pass to work on passing downs but also could be a power play when run to the TE side.
