Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We see 5-3(0 nose, 4i tackles, 9 DE, MLB stacked behind nose, and OLB stacked in the off tackle hole) OLB will walk out on a twins look, or 5-2 with similiar front alignment except tackles are in a 5 or 4. All teams have the N, DT's and inside LB's take dive, DE's take QB hard and play the pitch with the secondary - especially with the 5-2. We run inside veer but have a hard time keeping the FB as a ball carrier. We will block the DE and have the QB read the DT for give or keep, and run off the block of the TE. We try to get the defense to reduce and then read the DE as the dive key. If the 5-2 teams don't reduce we have a problem to the open side(I think). If we run true triple it end up being a pitch every time. We have also run a belly/belly option to the TE side and a lead option but inside veer is our number one play. Need some ideas on how others attack these two defenses.
Coach, We see the same defense. We will go to three wides and run outside veer to the open side. The other thing we do is go unbalanced twins, and an over front that looks like trips but the number three receiver is ineligible. They have to slide their lb's in either of these unbalanced looks or you have one inside lb. If they do slide, you have them outnumbered to the week side. Outside veer to the open side is our number one play. We man block the 4i, put the tackle straight to the ilb. Fulback's aiming point is the inside leg of the tackle. If they do not walk out on your trips throw the ball or run a double crack scheme and get outside with lead option. The other play that works well is the counter trap.
Thanks coach - we are going back to the outside veer next season. does your tackle man block the 4i and the playside guard take the LB? this is a good scheme vs teams that don't reduce. We are going to use Coach Campbell's Option on Me concept and we could pair inside veer and outside veer together - runinside if they reduce and outside if they stay in 4 or 4i. We run the same formations you described. We also run true unbalanced with 2 TE's - this will definitely cause reduction on the short side.
Go Trips to either side, and run the triple AWAY from trips. If you run double slot, leave a WR and shift a slot to any wr to make a WR, and 2 slots to one side and single WR to the other. Have your tackle outside release on the 4i and cut the play side LB. They have their defense to the trips side preferable the 3rd LB. You will have them out numbered. Run the triple AWAY from trips. its a doozy.
