Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We have the SS ( OLB in our D) play the flat THROUGH curl. He keys #2 (easy to read while watching backfield action) although I would say #1 is his primary target. He must receive help with #1's pattern from the CB telling him where he's heading. We like him to stay long enough in the curl to dissuade the QB from taking that option when they run a curl/flat combo. If and when the #2 receiver crosses his face, he can go to cover that route. Against trips we bring the other OLB over. This obviously has plus and minus points. It allows us to cover the curl and flats to the trips side with 2 defenders. The CB and FS take the deep zones. It does leave us without run force to the single receiver side and we have to make some run adjustments AND it puts our CB on that side in a kind of man coverage. He will have some inside help from the ILB short and the FS deep. If they have a stud WR who they play to the single side then we would bail out of that and take our chances on the trips side
