Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have an interview for a head job coming up very soon.. I was wanting to know what you have in your packet and if it is at all possible I see some of your stuff to get more ideas.
In my packet to hand out to the committee I have:
1. Coaching Philosphy 2. Strength and Conditioning (about 3 ) 3. Outline of Academic plan (1 page) 4. Fund Raising Ideas (1 page) 5. Offensive, Defensive, special teams, and practice philosophies ( about 2 pages)
roughly about 10 pages
I have a 3 ring binder consisting of:
1. Offensive Playbook 2. Entire Strength and conditioning progam
I have not interviewed for a HC position yet, but I've heard on this site and from other sources some things. Some panels want to run the show so you'll be answering a lot of questions. Others try to see what kind of leadership skills you have and kind of let the interview go where you take it.
As far as your Playbooks and Conditioning program go, I would not hand them the whole thing. If they ask to keep it, you might be put in a wierd situation (playbooks in the wrong hands can be a dangerous thing) Also, I'm not sure you would want desk jockeys 'critiquing' your system before you get the job. Maybe just share a page or two from your play book(s) and conditioning program along with an input schedule for spring practice. This should be enough 'meat' for them to base a decision on. My understanding of HC interviews is don't worry about $ (it's determined by the district office) and do not dwell on what system you run (it opens up a debate about 'perception' and 'whats in vogue').
Maybe talk about how you and your system / philosophies will help elevate those middle tier kids to the top shelf. That is where you get the most bang for your buck anyway. And don't forget to mention GPA, graduation, scholorships, and encouraging kids to continue on with their education. And make sure you start your interview with a firm handshake and confident smile for each and every panel member. Warming up your audience is half the battle.
As far as fundraising... Make sure you know how much it will take to run 'your' program and how much district and/or site funds will be allocated. This will give you rough figures to work with. Make sure you bring something (moneywise) to the table that they do not have already (i.e. golf tournament, passing league tournament, christmas tree sale, etc...) Also try to include any fundraisers that involve the local community kids, ppk event, football camp, etc.. And finally, make sure fundraisers include some flavor of the local area.
Just my opinions. Make sure to read through this entire section for pointers.
Thanks for your help. Im getting ready to head to my interview now, will interview tomorrow. I had packets made up of stating my philosphy of offense and defense but no playbook involved. Other things included where fundraisers, academic plan, strength and conditioning plan, coachin philosophy and other stuff.
I am bringing MY copy of my playbook and strength plan for them to look at not to keep.

When going into an interview you must have a plan that you belive in and one that you can sell to the interview committee. Must be able to take them through not general questions, but real guts of implementation from A to Z. Tell them exactly how you plan on making your program a class act and how you will keep the numbers up and kids coming out. Coach CAmpbell
I can honestly say my interview was OK. I know there was some things I could have improved on. My biggest mistake was not having my questions typed up and ready to ask. I knew better than that but I did not bring them with me by accident. Costly mistake I know. But everything else I went from A to Z. Hopefully I will get a second interview, but if not it wasnt for me. because I gave it my all.
My interview booklet was just redone. In it 1 have eight sections (about 85 pages in all)
Section 1 - fresh resume (more detailed then mailed, certifications, extra courses, etc.
Second 2 - prewritten refreences - about 10 - 15 (I have a file of 100 I p[ull what is relative to particular job)
Second 3 - philosophy of program, coaching philosophy, teaching [philosophy (in general terms - mission statement, etc.)
Section 4 - practice and playbook organizational philosophy (including samples)
Section 5 - staff organization (inccluding past examples)
Section 6 - Parents and Community relation section - philosophy, programs, copies of letter sent, parent handbook, fund raising examples
Section 7 - peripheral player [programs - goal setting, leadership, etc.
Section 8 - academic plan
They are done professionally - cost per six about 100 - 120 dollars.
Additionally over 26 years I have listed every question in a booklet I have been asked. After the interview I rewrite the answers so I can review for next interview
Finally, you should write a thank you to panel members afterwords - re emphsizing your belief you can get it done at school
Would it be possible to get a copy of your booklet? Im beginning to collect all that I can, so when Im ready for that first HC interview Ill be prepared.
