Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Are there any particular body types that you guys like for zone blocking? Smaller and quicker or bigger and stronger or some combination of those types? I have 4 guys in about the 6'2-4", 280lb range (big, but slow), and another 5 guys in the 5'10"-6', 225-30 lb range (better quickness). Ultimately, I feel your best 5 should play, but if a scheme benefits from a certain type I'd like to know.
For those that are proponents of zone blocking, what has you sold on it?
I've watched a lot of LSU football (wife is an alum), and their zone blocking is a beautiful thing.
I think the biggest guys that have good enough feet. The main thing about zone blocking is to drill, drill, drill the steps. If you work the footwork, your big guys can get there.
I like zone blocking because of the combos. Gives you a better chance of blocking studs up front and maintaining angles on the Backers.
As a rule our tallest linemen are OT's and our squattier guys are C's and OG's.

Zone blocking doesn't require big people it requires linemen with patience and a line coach that understands the difference in the fundamental schemes as it applies to the way the backs receive the ball. Zone blocking is a run to daylight fundamental progression. In 1985 when the full use of extended arms in advance of the body was excepted and approved zone schemes truley took off. I work with line coaches from around the country at all levels and the one aspect of the success of zone blocking is: does the footwork apply to the way the back receives the ball and does the running back have the ability inside the scheme to cutback when presented with the opportunity. Coach Campbell, the returning running backs are guys with decent vision and cutback ability. They are on the smaller side, but I think zone blocking will take advantage of their abilities. I also think zone blocking will benefit our line as well. Any recommendations on clinics, videos, and manuals. We've been talking to the OL coach from a local college, and he has given us some drills and tape. We are looking for as much as we can get our hands on!
