Coaches,
I have only one year of experience as a coach, but I have goals to become a coordinator/head coach one day so I want to begin working on my material. My philosophy on offense is one of being physical. I want to build an offense that is based on the run game, which allows for the play-action passing game to be affective. I also want a good balance and be able to spread some people out and go down field. I like throwing to the TE and feel this is an underused weapon in most offensive schemes. I like the I formation and 1-back, do not know much about the veer, but would entertain that possibility or some combination of I, 1-back, and veer as a running game.
I also want to be simple in scheme, yet complex in presentation. Giving opponents multiple looks, yet only running a small number of plays. I want good solid blocking rules that are easily understood, so I can allow my center to possibly call block schemes at the LOS, but mainly to allow a lineman to know who to block if his man doesn't line up right or the opponent throws something new at them during a game.
Defensively, I have study the 4-3. I like it and want to learn more about it. I have the front responsibilities down, but want to know what coverages are best at teh HS level and how much information should HS kids be given. Most HS teams are run oriented in my area, so I want to be able to add that extra man in the box but using the safeties in run support.
I am looking for ideas to develop an offensive system. Any help from all the offensive coaches would be greatly appreciated. Also, due to the difference in terminology, if possible define terms to minimize confusion.
