How can I best accomplish running the bounce play out of 4 wide? Should I just tighten the playside slot and block it like inside zone? I would appreciate any comments.
The only change we make between our inside zone play and the bounce play is the PST's block. Instead of basing the end, he fires straight off with his eyes on the outside breast plate. When he gets movement, then he starts to work his tail outside. You don't want to step outside or the end will work hard outside and make it a much harder block. The TB must start like it is the inside zone to hold the backers.
How about with a TE in the formation... if you get the end playing hard contain do you have the TE stay with him and ride him down the LOS or push him out wide if he penetrates, and have the back cut inside the TE?
At what point, or defensive alignments, do you decide to run bounce instead of inside zone? When the end starts to disregard contain when you run inside?
Thanks Coach, I'm trying to understand the blocking scheme for the bounce.
With a TE we will combo off the DE to the 2nd level. If the DE works hard down the line we will ride him outside and cut it up.
The only time we say we can't run the bounce is when the DE is aligned very wide. When we like to run bounce is when the ILB's really start filling hard on the inside play. We will run the inside play even if the end crashes. If we can't cut him off, we'll wash him inside and the back can take it outside.
