Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
O L Coach, we have our line slide to the power of the formation (we call either doubles right or doubles left). The back in the backfield goes opposite the way the line slides, regardless of the technique near the center.
In a 4 wide scheme we protect using BOB principles. If you have one back left to help then he double reads callside and uncovered linemen double reads backside. With a 1 tech. backside you would get a hand check by the guard away from the back and then he double reads. Coach Campbell
If we slide protect while in our one-back, we MIGHT slide to the tighter DT based on our personnel. If we feel we don't need to do that, the QB will indicate the slide based on his pre-snap read....we like to slide toward the read side which sends the back away...this keeps the back from potentially obstructing the QB's vision when throwing...our slide direction call is not predetermined in the huddle, but is determined at the LOS by the QB. pdow
On a 6 man slide protection with the QB dropping behind the center, should the OL have their inside foot up or all have the slide side foot up? Which way do we want to spill the rush?

Coach the inside foot would be up with the outside foot used as your anchor. Remember the half man advantage rule with the outside foot working to split the crotch of the down defender. Work inside out with the pass rush. Coach Campbell
On a 6 man Reach protection for roll/sprint outs, where the RB helps on the edge, would the line step so that their outside (playside) foot would be up and they would spill the rush away from the roll/sprint?
