Lets say I am running the stretch play or trap to the left out of a trips RT formation and I get a keep read for my QB. Now my question; Let's say I am facing a 4-4 defense that slides the FS over the top of #3 with an OLB that splits the difference between #2 & #3. Question #1- I want to have the option threat so should I drop the inside trip into pitch relationship with the QB or the middle trip? Question #2- How should I block this set-up? I want to leave the OLB unblockes because he is my read. Thanks for any rersponses

Bring your offensive linemen over using a dropstep tracking the stack. The QB reads the 5 tech for possible pull read. If 5 tech. plays down off the back heels of the offensive tackle on his inside release then pull the ball and take it towards the trips set. Coach CAmpbell

I'm a visual guy so pardon me if my suggestion doesn't make sense. We run option toward to trips if there is an invert to the open side. In your situation, I would typically drop the middle receiver to pitch and wall the inside receiver down on 1st second-level backer. I'm assuming your talking about a 4-2 type front. Let me know if this is clear enough.pdow

Yes...at least a bit. However, on his drop to pitch profile, have him angle back and then drop his outside foot...this takes practice in order to establish proper positioning. Now we have also used our #3 receiver as pitch and cracked #2 on the ILB'er. It just depends on game plan and can be a game adjustment. But remember, what we do is if there is no invert to the open side, we will opposite call the option and run it away from trips. pdow
