Calling all 33 gurus...
I finally got my hands on some 3-3 info. I cannot believe how simple it looks and sounds. I am of firm belief that someone with new or little information is dangerous (to himself and those within 5 feet). I'm asking you guys to hold my hand and make sure I get across the street safely!!
First...the addys of the articles I've got (thanks to the Single Wing Etc. Message Board at Delphi Forums):
www.americanfootballmonthly.com/Arena/NS_Magazine/Current/GMC.html
www.afca.com/pdf/02SM_Ron_Roberts.pdf
Sorry if they don't hyperlink. I'm Special Ed! (and if they do...I knew it would do that)
I am not going to properly cite the articles or refer to their authors. No offense, just trying to save space and time. The first article will simply be referred to as GMC (Georgia Military College) and the 2nd article will be TC (Tusculum College). Now....
GMCs 33 seems more my speed. I'm looking for a simple base alignment for each of the 3 groups (DL - LBs - DBs). *Obviously the ability and needs to vary alignment are week-to-week*
-As far as the DL alignment goes, I've heard 4-0-4, 5-0-5, two-number calls, tight 5s, etc... For beginners..What do you guys recommend calling it? I like the GMC basic DL calls - I'm sticking with those.
-LB calls seem to be a different issue now. Because of the 3-5 alignment, obviously there is an endless amount of stunts and blitzes. But, how would you call them? (remember, you're holding my hand) Would it be better to number/name call them or package call them (like combo pass routes)?
-DBs..I'm a 4-4 guy so I'm fairly comfortable with Cover 3, Man, and Man-Free stuff. One question though...If the offense lines up in a twins or slot set would you bring the Corner from the nub side or drop him into a Cover 2 look (playing 1/4-1/4-1/2)?
I guess that's enough to start on. Thank you for your patience and expertise that will undoubtedly be in your responses.
Getting ready to step off the curb (HEY!!! Don't Push!!),
