Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this. We are wanting to run the option out of our double wing but afraid that the foot to foot splits makes it impossible to read. Any suggestion or comments would be a big help.
It is my opinion that option teams want to have wider splits to spread out the middle of the defense. The keys will also have farther to go to get to the football.

Coach, With the double wing and tight splits I would run the outside veer. You are used to gap blocking everyone down. Read the man on the tight end that has the softest bubble for the down block. G-belly and g-belly option would be great as would lead option. Add a dive option to hit over any uncovered guard to attack the gut. I would concentrte on these plays that attack the perimeter. With the double wing people will pack it in so the flanks should be vulnerable.
Agree 100% with MG - with foot to foot splits the FB's path is the same as inside veer, QB's footwork is the same but the mesh point is offtackle. Outside veer would be a great addition to the Double Wing
SO then it would follow that from an I formation that you could also close your splits somewhat on improve the mesh on outside veer, making the angle not so drastic ?
Also, I know that many coaches advocate closing their splits on the backside to stop penetration, which usually leads to a key as to where the play is going. Would this then serve as a key-breaker?
We have toyed with this concept - like the idea of the same mechanics for the QB and The FB - Have to go to 6 inch or no splits to get the same path. We vary our splits to widen the 5 tech on the inside veer but have not done much with foot to foot. It is a key for the defense but if you do it on the backside it might not be a key. Have a little problem with the FB's path being at an angle toward the dive key, instead of north and south.
What would your fullbacks depth be would you move him back or use the sniffer fullback like in the double wing? I would think if you used the sniffer fullback it would make the ride and decide period longer?
