Coach, if I am running the 42, 43 Inside play should I have my QB check this play to the 2i,/1 technique? It seems that the 3 technique might if he's good, sqeeze the path for the RB. Am I correct when I say this? We will be calling alll plays at the LOS so this would not be a problem
Wow, it is truely amazing that high school kids have the ability to call plays at the line of scrimmage. I mean, I know that pros can do it, but I am amazed at this. How can this be? Coach Campbell, please explain....
Furthermore, what do the numbers 42 and 43 stand for? Is that the number of the runningback? So if you ran an outside play it would be called 42 outside, right?
This play is just inside zone out of the gun and should hold versus just about any front that does not have an extra defender in the box. With a 4-2 and a 3 tech backside you are going to get a deuce combo so it shouldn't be a problem. Think about checking out of the play if there is an inside blitz, otherwise if the inside zone is coupled with the gun option on the backside end you should be just fine.

Coach KD is on with his discription of 42-43. 42-43 is designed to come out the backside: example 42 inside would come out on the left side away from the even numbered callled. Inside Zone from the gun option is designed to take advantage of the backside end playing the quarterback on the gun option read. Coach CAmpbell

Coach let's say you got the 42-43 Inside play called and the DE doesn't play the QB. What will the RB's new landmark be? Should he just slam it up inside and get what he can? I understand that this play is designed to take advantage of the DE playing the QB.

Coach its easy if the DE doesn't play the QB but plays the running back then the QB will keep it and run with it. You call inside because the DE also has shown a tendency. Coach CAmpbell
If the running back is number 42 or 43, what is the quarterbacks jersey number. Is this something you call in the huddle as well. Something like 42 inside or 3 outside? I am a bit confused!
42 usually stands for the 4 back running through the 2 hole and 43 stands 4 Back running through the 3 hole. This is the general rule of thumb for this stuff. However, some coaches do not follow this format and they use what works best for them in their particular situation. I hope this helps.
I agree with you Coach KD. Inside Zone is option hole running for the fact you use zone blocking rules. It is not gap specific mor man rule blocking. Great play!
As long as you are required to have seven men on the line of scrimmage, you will always have four people in the back field. #1=Quarterback #2=Flanker or Extra Back #3=Fullback #4=Tailback Again, this is a very generalized numbering system. Many coaches adjust it to suit their needs. I hope this helps.
