What do you teach the RB on the stretch play? Specific steps would be appreciated. I am concerned that my back will be running too much sideways. How do you guys get him turned up into the LOS?Who does he read? Should he eyeball the 3/1 technique to the playside? Also I have read that Northwestern does not like to read this play. They want the RB to hit it fast, and that if the QB is reading it, it creates more of an oppurtunity for fumbles. I agree with them on this point. They prefer to read the counters and tackle traps since it gives the tackles time to get going.

Coach we teach a dropstep with playside foot as he starts his mesh across the quarterback, his aiming point for stretch from the gun is the far hip of the guard. I number our stretch 46 - 47 Stretch this tells the O-linemen to dropstep also and get on a track that takes them to the playside jersey number of their defender. Coach CAmpbell
