Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I am looking for any information on teaching the the splatter technique in a tilted 4-3. What are the reads and responses you give your linemen versus Markham Double Wing and Wing T? Any help would be great.
The splatter technique is in response to a down block. Lets say the DL is in a 3,5, or 9 Tech and the OL/TE commits a down block in response the DL splatters (also known as trapping the trapper when being trapped) either pulling lineman or FB. The goal is to hit the fb or pulling lineman as close to the point of origin as possible.
Is this the same as "wrong arming"? With the goal to bounce the inside run outside. If so, have the D lineman "hide" behind the down block to keep the blocker off the second level, then at the last second he pops with an inside rip on the trapper then squares up for the ball.
i have often heard people on this site say square to the ball to finsih the wrong-arm. what tech. is this. i teach my DE's to create a pile and aimming point is the inside hip with the outside shoulder. i have been thinking for the better part of a month about the statement square to the ball- to finish the wrongarm. i just don't understand the possitives of it? do you want the end to make a play or asst.? the info on this would be greatful!
Coach, Yes, you want your end to make the play. I tell our ends that they hide and trap the traper, outside rip. The linebacker just saw a down block so he will fill that gap and force the rb back to the end.. Well, in a perfect world... Anyways thats what we tell him... PGOLLA
Coach- D.L., Ripping inside the trapper with your outside arm to his inside hip and then "squaring up" to the ball is what I've always understood the "wrong-arm" technique to be. I teach this to my 3/4 tech players vs. an inside trap more so than against the counter trey. If I understood Coach Golla correctly I teach reacting to a kick-out block on the 9 technique the same way he teaches it, to not let the pulling guard kick them out by attacking the puller's outside shoulder. "Wrong-arm" a trap and outside rip a counter. Am I on the right track with this guys?
"Ripping inside the trapper with your outside arm to his inside hip..." " 'Wrong-arm" a trap and outside rip a counter. Am I on the right track with this guys?"
"Wrong arming", and "outside rip" are the same thing. I had it wrong earlier with a typo..."inside rip". Coach Golla also calls it "right arming". How ever you term it is still the same technique. What you are teaching is the same thing.
You're right Gunrunner44. I too just made a typo. I didn't mean to say "outside rip" I guess with all of the different terms each region or program might use, it would be easy to not be on the same page. I was actually asking if you guys attack an inside trap block differently than a kick-out block on a Counter I teach to "wrong-arm"/" outside rip" the pulling guard on an inside trap to plug up the hole. But with a kick-out block on a counter, I have my End squeeze the down block and then attack the outside shoulder of the kick-out blocker to turn force the ball back in toward the LBs. This is what I was curious in knowing..... do you guys do the same, or do you have your D linemen take on every trap/kickout block with an "outside rip/ wrong- arm" tech. I hope I made more sense this time. Thanks for all of the imput fellas.
I'm editting this message--- I just read the next thread about taking on a counter - I see how many of you are doing this. Thanks.
Coach, The only reason we call it outside rip or "Right Arm" is because you are right not wrong. Coaches call it all sorts of things. we try or best to always talk positive tell the kids the right thing to do. The best thing I think we do as a staff is our vocabulary. Since you always use your outside arm to (Wrong Arm) we call it outside rip. PGOLLA
why do you guys say "hide"? That sounds tough...if he's 300 lbs. I teach my guys to shove the hip of the down blocker. Often we'll wind up pushing him into a pile and our LB's go untouched. It also gives us momentum going into the wrong-arm.
Coach, Great stuff. We call it hide because we know when we get a down block we are most likely going to get a trap. So we tell our d-line they are smarter than the offense, they think we are going to fly up field and get kicked out.
We get down we think trap. Versus option we think qb, fb depends on end or tackle. We hide from the puller by insuring we do not give the puller an angle on us. Meaning we will go down with the down block and snap our eyes to the puller. We ride him untill we can right arm the puller. a lot of times that o-lineman will be deep and not even see us.
We are very much over dramatic on our vocabulary. We play very few teams that do a good job of right arming. our stimulus response is. Down=trap Who are you trapping? the trapper. I tell them we trap them because we know what they are doing. PG
I like that technique of pushing the hip of the O lineman because I always teach my guys to squeeze the next gap anyway, and it makes sense that it would give you momentum going into the splatter anyway.
