Hey,

I am looking to get into coaching in the US and am looking for advice. I have been coaching in the UK for a number of years for a successful university team and as the DC on the National Student team that tours Europe and the US. I have a degree and post grad qualifications but obviously will have to work hard to convince a program that I have what it takes as I have not been brought up in the US. I am hoping to visit some colleges this year for spring practise to help further my knowledge. Can anyone give me advice - I have just begun to apply for GA positions - is this the right approach?

Jake, look to work on the junior high school level first. That would be your best chance. So come out to the states, find a job, get hooked up with a junior high program and work your way up the ranks. That's my advice to you.

Coach Jake - Which area of the country are you interested in moving to or is that a consideration. Each state if trying to get into the educational system has different requirements for teaching, if attempting to coach and teach at the same location. Make inquires into a college and let them evaluate your transcripts to see if you need further classes or not. Texas requires that if you coach you must be an employee of the school district. Texas is a great state to coach in.. I'm orginally from California and there if you want to coach you don't have to teach. Keep open and explore all options. If you have contacts in the US I would use them to help you, coach is 90% who you know, not what you know. Coach CAmpbell
