Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
How do you guys think is the best way to defend a pro (usually I) set with a good TE? Do you like to play straight up 3-3 and not change much, or put sam on the ground head up the TE or bring down the stinger into a 9 tech, or what other options? We play teams with good TE's and TB's and will run Counter Trey, and Iso at that spot and give us troubles because they can wash everything down inside the TE. Then they only have to kick the stinger out and they've got a play. What do ya'll do?
If we see a two back team that we know is going to run the ball, we have a front that we get in that has been fantastic. Email me for more info. ballcoach1@netzero.net
Coach, We did something real similar to that and what we found was they would wash down our sam and end and then kick out the spur player and they had a play. We were not man on the TE with the FS though. That would have been immediate run support with a TE down block.
One thing we have wondered about was putting our sam down head up the TE and shifting will and mike. All gaps are still covered and we can still run our stunts. Sam would have to learn the front calls then but he should already know them.
ray lewis, we've seen that too, and it can cause problems--if we don't execute better than the oline. we've also sent the stinger hard, and looped the backer outside. we switch the stinger and backers' responsibilities-just to switch things up.
We will go to our Stud front - where Sam goes to a 9, and we either keep the DL heads up and slant or get them to slide to shade their man to the Strong side. This way we still have our stinger outside and mike inside. We found the tighter we played the stinger the easier it was for him to get caught up. if our Sam can physically manhandle the TE, then we can just play base cover 3 - on pass - sam looks for #2 and looks to collide and widen a vertical route while looking for #1 coming back underneath. On a quick in - Mike will collide and on an out we will cover with the flat defender. We can always pin the TE with the stinger and Sam with man coverage too.
