Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Any suggestions on containing the weakside boot out a 43 front w/Quarters coverage behind it? We are bringing our ends down hard behind LOS & spilling any kickout (FB) or trap (G) so its difficult to ask these players to also contain QB>
Coach, Are you wrong arming with you DE to spill everything outside? If so you are right in saying that you cannot ask them to contain, even if you are just crashing with a little bit of depth it is to hard to do. You sam and will are going to have to have spill control, and that includes the boot. If you are a team with speed this is a very sound concept, wrong arm with DE and spill everything out to your linebackers. Hard thing to do if you do not have the speed.

I completely agree with the previous poster, along with adding something else. You can also roll your coverage to a cover 3. When boot action is recognized, have the corner stay in the flats with the fs rolling to the outside 1/3 behind it, the ss to the middle 1/3, and the backside corner to the other outside 1/3. the corner in the flat will help if the qb breaks the line of scrimmage.

good point frmrgriffensafety, we gave a sky/cloud call on boot (could be an automatic) and would roll coverage accordingly. Our thought was if QB was going to roll we didn't have to worry about him throwing back across the field, this gave us the corner and the sam or will the chance to contain the QB on boot.

Thanks. It was something my college team did and I had the last high school team I coached do. It's always better to have 2 guys there to contain than one b/c there could be a fb or pulling lineman out in front of the boot. And you're right about that throw back across the feild. It is done sometimes, but for the most part the ball will be in the air a long time and there should be enough time to react.
