Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I know there's a time & place for both, but what advantage does a bunched trips have over a conventional trips set ? And what advantage does a conventional trips have over a bunched trips set ?
You can run most of the same plays out of both. I think the bunch is better against man coverage because of all the natural picks that are created. It also usually allows for shorter throws which are higher percentage. Trips spreads the field more. This stretches the defense and if the ball is thrown to the outside then there are less people to go through to get to the endzone. It puts more of a burden on the deep safeties and by design pulls people out of the box to help the numbers game when running the ball. It also gives the QB a little easier view of what the defense is trying to do, if they are all in tight then they can jump around a lot more. Just a few things, hope it helps.
you are right both have a place. the one thing with bunch is you have to have a great release guy at the top. if he gets stuffed the whole timing of the bunch gets wacked.
the advantage of the bunch is you create space vs tight man or man coverage. you are working to really get one rec open on the bunch.
also, you can place trips into the boundry when on the high school hash. the h.s. hash being at 18 yds creates a spacing problem for trips into the boundry but the buch set takes care of this.
the advantage of straigt trips is, 1. h.s the ball is on the hash the majority of the time. you can spread the field to the trips and create one on one on the backside. with the h.s. hash being at 18yds it is hard to create space to the boundry side. 2. trips has the best play of them all, run and shoot choice route. you can read it single rec to trips or trips to single rec. either way you have a place to go with the ball. 3. the defnse has to chose, either rotate the coverage to the trips side and cover the single rec with a bracket coverage or stright man. typically what trips teams will do is remove a guy from the box thus allowing for a numbers advantage in the run game.
the trips route is run best from a 3x1 set with the single rec into the boundry.
the single rec has three choices all based on the coverage 1. a 8-10 yd speed out vs inside tech by a db. 2. a 8-10 yd skinny slant vs outside tech by a db 3. vs a press situation convert to a fade.
when the conversion takes place or the qb does not feel comfortable he moves to the backside trips which has numerous plays. if choice is called the inside most slot runs a drag, the next slot as a read based on the coverage. vs a single safety defense the slot is running a vertical, vs a double safety defense he can hookup or run a post.
the next verstion is choice special where the slots exchange assingments. choice switch is another version. inside slot runs a drag, next slot is running the outside switch, the wr is running the inside part of the switch route.
Are you talking about the WIDTH of the 3 receiver's align? If so - being "bunched" is better vs MAN because of all the natural picks & "rubs" that occur.
The advantage of the conventional trips set is the exact opposite of the reason for onebacks bunch advantage. Just as the bunch takes advantage of the close picks and rubs, conventional trips allows the receivers more room to operate( get off the jam) vs. man.
