It seems a lot of people here like this 6 man protection : man one side & RB have a double read / slide the other side & the uncovered lineman double read. Also, some like a 5 man protection with uncovered linemen double reading inside-out. Could someone give some details about the lineman's double read ? Does he get depth immediately ? Does he help an adjacent lineman ? I'd appreciate some answers - as I'm trying to learn more about O-line play. Thanks.
We like to get some depth immediately on our double reads. If we have to bail out then we are ahead of the game. If our tackle indicates we have a threat outside, we check inside quickly and then bail to the threat. If we don't have a quick edge player, and our inside read doesn't come, then we help an adjacent lineman.
