Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
If you're like me, you find other teachers coming to you often when one "your" players is a behavior problem in their class. For the most part, I appreciate the heads up/status report, and I will take the player aside if I think it's needed. But, I find myself somewhat annoyed by the constant idea that just because I'm their coach, that it is also my responsibility to make sure they do what they're supposed to in class all the time as well. I honestly feel like there are some staff members who are either dissapointed that I don't teach them better during the season, or that I don't jump right in and rip em a new one (so to speak).
Just how far do we have to go as coaches to make sure each and every player is doing what they should be doing in each of their classes, especially during the off season. I mean, non of us like their players stepping out of line and we all try as best we can to stay on top of all potential problems, but do we have to be the disciplinarian in other teacher's classes as well? Perhaps, I'm way off base on this one and I'm just venting a little, but could you imagine a coach coming up to another teacher in the hallway on Monday and saying "Your art student is not hustling in practice!".
I think it comes down to the standard you set for your kids. I know of a place that has a football phys ed class and ANY discipline problems are handled during this time. It does not take very long for the kids to tighten up in the classroom/school building. I think this situation is what everyone would like, but not all of us have this setup, so another route may be needed.
Teachers DO tend to take things a bit too far sometimes.
Try this: Next time a teacher says, "One of your players is distracting other students in my class by goofing off," reply with "One of YOUR students missed 3 out of 4 PAT's last Friday night!" That might illustrate the point that it is not soley your responsibility!
Of course I'm joking, but you get my point I'm sure!
It can be frustrating when faculty members expect coaches to handle their classroom management, but it can also pay dividends. We hold our players to a strict standard academically and behaviorally. If students aren't caught up with work on Friday, they don't play. If they misbehave in school, there are consequences in practice. It requires time and energy, but players develop championship habits. As a result we are much less likely to lose a key player for a big game as a result of ineligibility. (Academic or behavioral).
In addition, at lunch one day, a teacher thankful for our policies announced that football was her new favorite sport at the school and that she wished all the sports held their athletes accountable. The sentiment goes a long way when asking for resources in the community.
Coach, This is very frustrating, only getting negetives from the teachers. My first two years I got phone call after phone call from teachers telling me about this kid and that kid. It really starts to burn you out. I came up with an idea in spring of last year that has not only helped me but has changed teachers attitudes towards sports. I told our kids any time a teacher, janitor, administrator, security etc.... ever come to me saying any POSITIVE about them they get something special that week. 3 times they get a t-shirt, etc... During the season it was out of control. I told them they will get those little helment stickers. I could not teach class because of the positive phone calls from teachers etc.... Not only did this fire up the kids but it helped make our teachers understand our kids are good.... PG
