why do coaches do the things they do....

Just a random question. Why do some coaches do seemingly stupid things? The last 2 coaches at my high school, as soon as they got the head coaching job, went out and bought all new uniforms for the football team, new pants, new jerseys, new helmets. I'm not saying this is a bad thing in itself, but when they spend more money on making the players look "pretty" than investing in things that will make a better football team, I think it's ridiculous. Take the weight room for example: 4 olympic bench's; 2 squat racks; 1 power clean station; 1 deadlift station; a pulley machine for pulldowns, cable rows, etc.; 1 pec deck machine, 1 incline bench, 1 leg curl/leg ext. machine, 1 leg press machine, and that is it. No glute ham raise, no reverse hyper, no back hyper, insufficient squat racks and olympic lift stations...it drives me crazy to see these kids in their shiny new uniforms, weak, and slow!! My old high school went 1-8 last year (many people in the community said it was THE worst season we have ever had), we went 2-7 the year before and 3-6 three years ago (at the start of the new uniform craze). I guess the idea is, "it's ok to run the football program into the ground as long as we look pretty doing it" I'm going to school to eventually become a football coach, and I would love the opportunity to come back to my old high school and coach (if the current losing streaks continue, the position should be open for me!). The first thing I will do is upgrade that weight room, and have conditioning/nutrition manuals printed out for every player along with each playbook. Just to show my disgust with the new uniform theology, I may just sell the new ones and have the kids wear the uniforms from 1978! I could spend the money from the selling the new uniforms on something that would actually improve the performance of the players inside the uniforms!..................Ok, I think I'm done venting now, just had to get that off my chest.....IF there are any coaches out there that post on this site that believe in the upgraded uniform before upgrading the tools necessary to producing quality football player....PLEASE change your ways, or maybe someday I'll take your job too!
