Dear All,
I am a college student looking to get a start in the coaching profession. I sent a letter and resume to several area high schools, and have since been asked to interview. I have no playing experience, but have been studying the game in detail the past two years. I know I might be slighted though because of my inexperience. My question is this. How could someone in my postion impress you as a coach? I am 19 years old, and would be willing to help the team in any manner. Thank you for your time!
prefontaine: Be sincerely willing to do ANYTHING for the good of the program. Scouting, stats, tape breakdown, anything you are asked to do. In fact, when I started out - scouting was one of my first assignments and I feel it really helps you learn the game and develop as a young coach. Do not be 'above' being assigned junior high football coaching duties either, some of the best and most loyal coaches I've been around started at that level. Take on any assignment with a committed effort and you will show your head coach and school you are there for the good of the players and the program. Also, attend as many coaching clinics as possible, view tapes, read books, talk to respected/successful football coaches in your area to broaden your knowledge about the game. Hope this helps. Good Luck, tm
