Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Defensive minded coaches, what type of offense do you most dread when it comes to running the ball? Wing-T is pretty big up here especially with the smaller schools. Just curious which ones give those of you around the country the most headaches.
I always hated seeing what I call a Wings-n-things team. This is a team that is not a straight ahead Wing T team but will break the wing and do other things from it, being option, spread, shotgun, etc. I have seen some pretty good teams that do the Wing T plays to perfection and still do other things that force you to prepare for them.
Also, option teams can cause problems if there effecient. The teams that line up in four wides and are very good at what they do always cause issues, espcially on your personnel.
Coach, very interesting. We are such a team here in Ohio. We need to learn the option a little better, but that is one of my main reasons for coming to this sight.
Coach, I just took over a program last year that had been running wing-t for about 30 years. I made the switch to triple option and totally abandoned the wing-t. It was a mistake because that was all our kids knew. This year we will be running a combination of roughly 40% wing-t, 40% option, and 20% power when we are on the ground. Both the wing-t and the option have their advantages but when you combine both of those systems and committ to practicing and executing both with equal focus, it's very difficult to defend.
A very good friend of mine is the head coach at Paraclete H.S. here in Sounthern California who has won 2 CIF (State) championships running this type of offense (wings and things). His name is Jeff Cortez and I would email him, tell him you were referred by Jason Bornn and see what you can get from him. His email address is:
Jcortez@paraclete.pvt.k12.ca.us
He does an unbeleivable job with what he does and I think you can get some good stuff from him.
OC1C, yes we stay within each of those two schemes. Our wing-t is run with the backs hands folded over their chests (hiding the ball) and on our triple option package we truly read for both hand-offs and the pitch phase. We spend a lot of time practicing both types of systems. We throw the ballabout one third of the time (ideally). Our practice focus is roughly the same percentage as what we do in games. The trick is to compartmentalize each area of the offensive system. The coaches and players must deliniate between the different styles, yet be comfortable in running each.
How well can your kids pick up both the Wing T and Triple Option. I think it would be difficult to teach 2 systems because of the alignments of the backs etc. So I am simply wondering how well do the kids pick up both systems.
Thanks Coach Anderson

Coach Anderson I run multiple formations and multiple backfield sets and the kids handle it fine as long as you have an organized system to install it and understand how to fix it if it breaks. Coach CAmpbell
I've been a DC for 10 years and the one team on our schedule that is the hardest to prepare for before and during practice sessions runs the option. They are one of the best option teams I've ever seen, they averaged over 500 yards rushing/game last year. Add the play action and they are really tough.

Coach let me know what your base defense is and let me know what your opponent likes to run with the option game and I think I might be able to help. Coach Campbell
