what is a good bodyfat % to be at for a linebacker? I'm currently 5-9, 188 at around 13% bodyfat. I know during the summer my bodyfat will drop. Right now I'm just focusing on strength and adding a bit more size though.
If you are a Backer then it sounds like you need to be puttin on some mass right now. 13% isnt bad, by any means.
Body composition can be crucial to improving speed. If you are trying to get big right now, which you said you were, then you need to eat, eat and eat while at the same time trying to minimize bodyfat gain. The best way to do this in my opinion is to perform interval sprinting (<75% max speed).
I would continue trying to get as strong and powerful as possible...the weight will come with proper eating.
A good BF% range to shoot for though, since you wanted numbers, is between 10-12% for a linebacker, but remember that the stronger you are in relation to your bodyweight, the faster you will be.

Thanks annihil8or. I'm not sure exactly what position I'll be playing in college next year, I hope outside linebacker though. The two OLB's on the roster already at the school I'm going to next year are 5-11, 200, and 5-9, 185. The 5-11 200 guy runs a 5.2 40 and the 5-9, 185 guy runs a 5.4 (SLLLLLOOOOOOWWWWW!!!). I was really surprised to find out they were that slow, especially the 5-9 kid. But then again, the college I'm going to next year isn't exactly a football powerhouse. (they are probably the 2nd or 3rd worst football program in div. 3, but they've only had a varsity team since 1990). I'm trying not to focus too much on the other guys that play my position, but instead focusing on bettering myself. If I'm only comparing myself to others, then even if I was the best in the world at outside linebacker, I'd always be looking over my shoulder. I want to be the best that I can be, and if I accomplish that, I think I'll be a pretty good linebacker.
YIKES! I thought today's players were supposed to be bigger and stronger. I finished my Sr. year at 5'11" 210 lbs and ran a 4.9 on grass and couldn't even get a walk-on invitation in the state of Louisiana. I wasn't particularly strong (250 bench and 405 squat), but I certainly think I could have played at that school.
My brother is in the same category as I was, although he is bigger: 6'2 225. Where is this school?
