Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We are trying to install the flexbone. Have run parts of it previously and are trying to game plan vs. several fronts. We see a lot of reduced fronts. To the TE they play a 9, 4i, and lb just inside the 4i. Nose is head up, but tends to attack strong side, 3 technique and 5 technique weak with lb in A gap. Secondary is usually 2 deep, with hard corners. How can we attack this with option?
If I've drawn it up correctly, I would run inside veer away from the TE. With the nose taking the strong side gap I would also be inclined to run midline @ the 3 tech. You can fan the 5 and fold for the LB or double the LB with G/T and arc the PSWB and pitch off the 5 tech. That should get the ball outside quickly. If that NG wants to play games just run a straight dive over the crack of the C. Let the NG run himself out of the play, release both Gs & Ts for the LB and run hamburger drill till he decides to be a football player and not a gambler.
Coach, My understanding of the flexbone formation is a balanced formation with the usual interior O line alignment, Wingbacks 1x1 off each tackle, and split ends on each side. QB and FB in the backfield. The defense will usually align in a balanced set or declare strong side to the field. Midline works well attacking this if they run 9-4i-0-4i-9 across the front. If you know which side the defense is declaring as strong, you run opposite, base the nose with the center and release both PSG and PST on the PSLB tracking to the safety. We have torn up a 5-2 Cover 2 shell look with the off tackle power play as well. That C gap has no linebacker support, especially if the tackles are in a 4i tech. If their safeties are making tackles, we're getting 5 or 6 yards a play.

Personally, I think against that defense you are seeing. You aren't gaining anything by remaining in a TE set. But really I dont think it hurts you nor helps you. Just your entire scheme should dominate it.
You have a lot of different options that leaves that defense extremely vulnerable. To the 3 & 5 tech you can run outside veer have the OT block down on the 3 tech send the slot to the LB thats in A Gap, make the dive read the 5 tech, send the WR to crack the safety since they are in cover 2 pitch off the corner. Backside OL scoop.
Just because they have a 3 tech doesnt mean you cant run outside veer
To the TE side you can run outside veer just as well. Or you can run inside veer to the TE side. scoop the nose to backside backer, have OG base the LB that is just inside the 4i outside release the OT to LB. Thus making the dive read the 4i pitch read the 9 tech. You can either ARC the Te to the corner and send the slot to block the saftey or vice versa.
You can handle this defense, reading the 4i to the te side on the inside veer will be quick but shouldnt be a problem if you change up outside veer and inside veer, they will be plenty confused.
