Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
That is very true. I've always taught two different covered, uncovered rules for the Inside Zone (Zone) and Outside Zone (Stretch). I teach the Inside Zone as Covered - Punch the outside breast plate and work to second level when knocked off
Say you are trying to run outside zone vs a 4/4 with LB's stacked over the 2 tech, a 5 tech and a 9. Running outside zone to the right, C would overtake 2 unless he slants outside then the C would climb to backside LB'er. PSG would step to be gap and take over a slanting 2 or climb to PSLB'er if 2 slants in, PST would rip on the outside of the 5 and TE or Wing would take care of 9? Backside G would pull and protect A Gap climbing to BSLB'er? BSTwould pull to overtake B Gap or climb? QB pulls to hold backside 5 and backside slot or TE would block the 9? Is that on the right track?
I'm sorry I misunderstood the front. With a playside 2,5,9 and a stack backer, you are outnumbered. The TE and the PST are going to have to block solid, and the C and PSG will have to block the stack. That will leave the PSLB free more than likely. IF you can't outrun him to the edge, I'd say you need to run Inside zone to the weak side more likely, you need to throw the football.
That's kind of what I thought. That leads me to my next question. What determines when you call inside or outside zone? Are there certain fronts or defense's you gameplan the plays for? Thank you for the responses.
That's what I'm looking for. Do you ever run inside zone vs a 50? If so do you just read the nose for cutback? Would you prefer running Iso's and trap's instead vs a 50?
If we get a head up nose and 5's we'll triple the nose to the backers and turn out the fives. If we get 4's or 4I's the we will run our counter zone which gives us time to double TUG and single block the NG and cut off of him.
Northstang what do you mean by counter zone (can you give an example of how you would block a certain front)?? Are you talking about a counter play with BSG and BST or an H-back pulling? Or are you talking about the play where you show inside zone action one way and then the QB and running back fake and go the opposite direction. Is TUG a combo block between the guard and tackle?
So the playside blocks like inside zone, the back action goes towards the playside, while the backside guard and tackle do their TUG block block. The back then gets the ball after the counter action and runs off the TUG block backside??
