Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
we have been seeing some 4-4 stack defense vs. the zone. We are all one back so by formation we can get the outside lbers to bump out to our slot. What we are seeing is 6 on the TE will slant to c gap about 15% of the time. and both guards have a 2 tech with lbers stacked in 20's. What they have been doing to us is running twist with the stacks. the lber will either go A or B with the DT going oppisite. My question is do we Deuce wedge or Deuce Slow on the inside zone play?
Thanks!

Coach JD, I don't profess to be much of an inside zone guy, but I just saw the O Line coach from Princeton talking about the play this weekend. He said the RB has to read the action of the PS DT. If the tackle stunts to A gap, the play is to the Playside B gap. The key to the Inside Zone play is to create distortion on the LOS by creating defensive flow to the strong side and then running the cutback lane. If the defense tries to stunt back against the flow, the RB should be taught to take the ball straight to the B gap. He suggests running the ball to the B gap as the RB initial aiming point as this will initiate more flow by the defensive front. So if the tackle is stunting into A gap, the PS offensive tackle's response to the man disappearing should be to jump the LB on the second level. TE's initial footwork should be a set to drive step to playside to protect the C gap.
i posed the same question to the university of minnesota coaching staff, this was there reply:
Two 2 techniques Front side: You can use the center and the guard to combo the front side side 2 tech. If the 2 tech playes the front side then the guard will take him and run the "B" board. The Stacked linebacker will either play frontside which will run him out of the play or he will rock back into the "A" gap which the center will be waiting for him. If the 2 tech Backdoors the guard block then the center will take him and the guard will go toward the Stacked LB. The tackle and the tightend will combo the 7tech and the outside backer. first you can double team the 7 and come off late on the backer or if the backer is showing right away then just fan the look trying to stretch the defenders out.
Back Side: It works basically the same way. You can use the tackle and the Guard to combo the 2 tech the same rules apply. They just have to run their boards. The guard should naturally cut off the 2 tech and the tackle will take him over. The Guard would then go to the plugging LB. If the LB plays Backside then there should be a hole up the middle and if he plugs the guard should be right there for him. Just leave the backside end alone because he should be on an island with the QB's boot fake.
they also stated the cutback is probably what will be most available.
I found a University of Minnesota AFCA article on their inside zone play. It was a good read, they go into techniques and what the back should look for.
DC29 did you e-mail this address: football@umn.edu?? I e-mailed them a question last Wednesday and they haven't gotten back to me. How long did it take them to get back to you?
Stay with your zone rules and have lineman stay on there paths and stunts and twists should not be a problem. Must have a back that can read on the run to where the hole maybe. these stunts must be worked in practice over and over. The more lineman see these stunts, the easier they will be picked up
Coach DC29 did you happen to get anymore info on their zone running game? Like how they handle a playside shade or a playside 3 technique? When do they pull on their outside zone?
