Our staff and team is starting a team camp this summer. I am looking for ideas "outside the box" other than tradition drills to keep things interesting. Anything for drill, conditoiners, team building, fun stuff would be great. Things that these kids will remember on top of the great coaching
If any of you have any ideas or have seen things at other camps I would appreciate the suggestions.
Do you have any attractions in your community or near by? Some camps are able to spend a night out camping or at the beach/river/lake etc. This is a great way for team building and a break from the instruction of the camp itself.
A few years ago, we were interested in getting more out of our summer camp. We started a tradition that has grown into a week long, over night stay where we can totally immerse our kids in football. To me, it resembled those first 10 days of football in college (before the rest of the students arrived!) There's too much to go into here, but if you're interested, email me at dkhilliard@earthlink.net. I'll be glad to go into more detail about what we do.

Our camp is held at a college along with 4-5 other teams. It would be interesting to do some competitions including other teams. also breaking our kids off by ourself for some team building. I guess that is what I'm looking for. Thanks for input so far.

Coach,
We take our kids out into the "boonies" for our summer camp. We don't take the freshman because it may be too much for them because we have a week-long camp at our school a couple weeks later that they must attend. Anyway, we go to a place in southern Ohio (our school is in Ohio), and we stay there for 4 days and 3 nights. There is NOTHING around to distract the kids (no t.v., etc...) Some kids bring portable video game modules, but they are so busy and so tired that they usually don't get to play them. We have 3 sessions a day. (session 1 and 2- 3 hours, and session 3 at dusk for about an hour and a half). The kids go swimming at the end of each day. We get three meals a day, and a dessert at night. On the last day before we go home, we divide the kids by school class (sophomores, juniors, seniors), and we have game competitions that all stress team building. The camp is ideal because there are no distractions, nobody to talk to except each other, and the coaches also get to bond with the players. It helped our team come together dramatically. I suggest something like what I described for team building and total concentration on football.
