Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I have posted a few times on what we do vs this type of offense. Since we'll see this formation 75% of the games next year, I'd like to know what some of you guys who see this do against it. Or, if you don't see much of it, what would your adjustments to it be?
Coach, When we play a 2 TE, 2 backs we can take out a saf and add a inside lb. play the ends head up of te's and the 4 stand up lb's blitz or read etc... We also load that formation (bring down our 2 saft) like a 5-3 look. We really have been successful with the 4 lb's and have the free now head up to a yard outside of the TE. PG
Hawkoption, this defense you're describing with the DE's head up on the TE's, are all 4 LB's aligned inside the DE's , also how are the spur's and nose aligned? Thanks in advance
some people live on what they know, and some people live for what they don't
Coach, Starting from right to left. The End is head up the TE, LB stacked behind OTackle Mike inside shade of guard still about 4 to 5 yards deep. Nose head up of center. Left Mike inside of guard, inside lb stack over OTackle and DE head up of TE.
Free now becomes and OLB/SAFT 9 yards deep 1 yard outside the TE. Other OLB/SAFT stays the same 9X1 outside other TE.
In 2 games this year we played 2 TE 2 Back sets who want to run the ball. We took out a corner and added a LB. Would sub when they sub. We made sure every gap was hit and cut back and force were in place. Back out, screen etc... were all covered.
The great thing about this front is that nothing changes. You basically have to middle lb's so your blitz stay the same. PG
It would seem that you could get hurt by a receiver in the middle of the field, unless you have some great athletes to play man. Or do you roll to some type of zone coverage. I know in this set that you are playing run, but you could get burnt. So, what do you do?

Coach, You can play zone like cover 3 or 2. If you look at the offensive formation 2 back 2 TE you are talking about 1 rec burning you in the middle. We believe that a slow average db can play a rec physical enough to jam turn him to avoid the middle. I think its a miss conception that you have to have great atheletes to play man to man. get in there face teach good TECHNIQUE make them throw under 2 seconds!!! If you are worried about getting burned in the middle versus 2 TE and 2 backs have one of your saft rob the one WR. Again we would keep our best db on the field and sub a lb for a saft. We would not make this sub if this was a throwing team....... We also believe that our guys playing over the TE are A LOT better then they are. PGOLLA
