Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
What do you think about running the counter read from the Gun, with two backs? The FB and QB mesh, QB reads 5 tech if he comes up field give, if he squeezes, keep. The TB dropsteps to gain depth, and gets into pitch relationship with QB. QB pitches off first defender past the 5 tech.
Coach Vint, I love this play. What we started doing last year was have our off HB take a jab step in the same direction as the mesh back to make it look like our power, so as to hold the LB's. On his 2nd step, he would plant and turn away from LOS in the process of attaining a proper pitch relationship.
We slotted our TE. This is normally a passing formation for us, so running the DB's off and stalk blocking was not a problem. Another thing that we did was run a double screen from this formation and back movements. We pulled both guards and tackles and gave the QB a choice of which HB to throw the screen to. The slotted TE ran a zone route right in front of the QB as an outlet to the LB's flowing hard to the edges chasing after the screen looks.
I think the screen would be a great changeup for the defense. I like the TE over the middle. Did you ever have the TE crack on the screen? Gunther Brewer from North Carolina talked about the crack screen from 2 back gun at the Baltimore Glazier Clinic.
By the way, judging by your handle your might be from Nebraska. Where do you coach? I grew up in the Midwest, loved Nebraska Football.
Coach, I am currently teaching and coaching in Michigan. I have been a long time fan of the 'huskers. I love what they do, I wish I had the horses to run all of the things that they do. We have cracked with the TE on this play if one of the DB's tends to shy away from contact. We'll put him on an island and force him to stop us (sometimes we won't even bother blocking him). If the player in question is the slot defender, our TE will crack on LB while our FL/SE will run off and then block the CB on him. If the man in question is the CB, we will have the TE run his dfender off about 6 yards and then turn in on the next threat (usually a LB). By the time the TE breaks inside, the CB is all the way over to the slot defender to crack him. Two different occasions this past season our SE/FL hit the sot defender so hard, I felt it in the film room later that weekend.

Boot towards the openside with an aggressive reach by the tackle, pulling the backside guard. fake 42 or 43 depending which way you want to run the boot. The action comes off of 42-43 inside (Dive) Coach CAmpbell
