Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
How do you defend against a 2 x 2 (2 TE and 2 RB) offensive formation if your base 4-3 is a college (Miami 7-3-1-5 vs pro set) or if it is an under/eagle 4-3 (5-1-3-5)? If you bring 8 in the box, what is your favorite way to do it? What coverages do you like to play on running downs? Passing downs - are you still 8 in the box?
We are coing to a college 43 this year and as of now we are looking at keeping our over front vs. two TE but checking to cover 3 and walking our SS up to a 9 tech. on the weak side TE. What do you think?
The theory about how to play a twins formation (2x2) is if you have better personnel they stay with your 4-3. But for most of us we end up not running much 4-3 against a twins set unless the down and distance might dictate otherwise. We go to our 8 man front where our Rover (Strong safety) has the outside gap and the LBs all shift to the weak side. We will try to run our 8 man front to put teams into a 2nd or 3rd and long situation and force them to throw the ball. Our package is from Colorado St which in turn gets all of their information from Tampa Bay. This is how we do it from our Over package our Under package the Sam is on the TE all ready so the Rover will line up opposite of the TE and play outside run support. We don't ask our safeties to do different things. Some teams play a right and left safety and the safety opposite of Sam will come up in the 8 man front.
