Running Dive Plays

If I see an open hole that will give me alot of yards, should I go for that hole or just go to where the play is designated to be ran and secure the first down?

Things happen in football so fast. If you go for a hole to gain more yards it might not even be there when you get there, take the 1st down. It makes coaches happy. Scott
