Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I had a little trouble understanding your Third Hand drill and it intrigued me. Could you please explain it thoroughly to a shortbrained person? Do the qb's put their hands on the back of the chair, then gut the ball etc.?
The chair progression is a regular part of our practices after our drop drill, fancy hands drill, and jumping rope. The chair progression is: QB's get in their stance with the ball in their hands, positioned at the top of the back of the chair. The QB brings the ball to his belly, keeping the elbows in. This is actually the fourth progression. First progression is reading the inverts as the QB goes the the LOS. Second progression is the QB feet positioning. Third is their body position and extension. Fourth is the third hand drill. 5th progression is the third hand eyes first step. This means they take the ball to the third hand, take their first step for the particular play, and get their eyes to their read. Example, For 10 Midline, they would take the snap, push away, and get their eyes to the 3 tech. This progression gets them used to getting the ball to the third hand which is a key in eliminating fumbled snaps. The chair helps simulate the center and hand position to receive the snap. After the progression, we will start working our mesh drill with the running backs.
Great job this weekend! And what a game we saw, Yankee stadium! Coach Lansdell gave me so many great drills and concepts that made sense. His Complete Quarterback is awesome!
I got the chair idea from Chris Matura who was the QB coach for the Miami Dolphins. I met him two years ago during the NFL High School player development program. He also showed me the third hand drill. Coach Lansdell showed me a better way of doing the third hand drill, several other necessary drills, as well as better ways to drop. Some coaches visited our practice yesterday and have been asking me about the drops, but I would say the best way to learn it is to attend one of Coach Lansdell's camps in California. He also outlines these in the Comlete Quarterback, which we use with our QB's each day in the classroom. He is a tremendous quarterback coach, and his knowledge of the pass game is immense. Coach Campbell, your a good man!
Coach Vint thanks for the great hospitality, it is a secere pleasure to come to New York and work with the coaches there. The job you and Coach Diaz have done at Columbus is excellent. I look forward to our next years clinic again - keep up the great job / Coach CAmpbell
