Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
From a base 5-2 with a Cover 2 shell. Does anyone assign DE on flow opposite to defend counter, crossface & reverse (CCR), rather than get on a horse and pursue downfield? Effectively cutting the number of men to the ball by one. How about with BS CB. Do you instruct this CB to eyeball a backdoor post enroute to his "save" path?
Would you consider such instruction to be overemphasizing a relatively small exposure?

The tackle and end have two responsiblities determined by the defense c alled. You can put the tackle in the 50 on chase contain with ball away, and the end on collapse checking for counter and cutback when ball goes away. But yes to answer your question if the tackle has chase then when ball goes away he will chase the ball carrier ball staying as deep as the ball and keeping it on his inside shoulder. Lets take this one further. Coach CAmpbell
We take our DE and have him check for counters and reverses 1st, then take a deeper angle on pursuit. It may cost him extra yards on a long play, but will definitely help to stop a reverse coming right at him. We feel that he would only make a play on a long run to the other side (even against a cutback, the back will get a decent gain). So, they get big yards with or without his pursuit. He can make a reverse or counter into a short gain/loss if he checks 1st. If he gets on his horse too soon, he could help turn the reverse into a big play.
