Lateral Step VS 45 Degree angle step

coach vint-when you are talking about getting hands to hip, basically like get to you guns for the hand shoot,, how often do your guys actaully get them there? we used to teach this but have seen from others and ourselves that we get a better punch with hands low and ready like a short jab instead of all the way from the hip, of course we might be crowding the ball more and dont have time for that, we would like the second step to be the one contact is made on, but it does not always happen due to dl being quick and whatnot, understand that there are many ways to skin a cat, and that opinions are , well you know, just something that has worked for us, ps-that was how i was taught in hs, but college we went to the looser hands on first step, basically now i don't even mention anything about hands (as far as the pre-shoot goes) except for shooting THROUGH the guy on second step with face hands and second step all hitting at the same time--get them where you can use them is about all i tell them about this (i want them concentrating on going through the guy and SEEING the bslbr that they will have to scrape off to more than thinking about little things) yes it is a little thing and, and yes little things are important, and yes little things are learned from muscle memory during drills, but come playing time, play,, and yes i do tend to get long winded and no i am not saying this is a better way, its just what we do, and kinda how i say it on the field, just using my lingo
