Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Do any of you have good drills and keys for the QB reading the backside contain guy when he tries to chase the play down from behind and the QB pulls it and runs around him? I'm looking for drills, what you tell your QB to read and what you tell your TB to keep him from taking the ball.

For the Tailback its a soft pocket by the Tailback with the QB keeping his eyes to the inside jersey number of the 5 technique. This read is easy and just needs to be practiced over and over (reps). The key term if the QB gets the pull read replace the 5 tech. Coach Campbell

stick,
we also read the backside 5 on our zone read play. we really only run it at teams who reduce their fronts against our base set (gun, 3 wides, 2rb's). If the front is reduced, we don't need a back to block the force on inside zone, so we run our FB on inside zone, read the backside 5, and loop our tail over the top to set up for pitch relation with the QB. It works very well for us, because we don't have to double read the 5 and WILL. Sometimes we run it against teams who leave seven in the box, because our FB is 220. He knows that he will have some tough yards ahead of him, but we are probably calling it because the end has been crashing. Coach Campbell is exactly right, it is the reps that teach. Teach the tail the exact way you teach the full on veer, with the QB helping out by being distinct with his pressure. Also, if you insist on your QB selling his fakes every play, you may not have to worry about the 5, unless the other teams use their WILLs as contain instead of the 5's (like we do!). Hope this helps, any other questions, feel free to write me @ silverback1125@hotmail.com. We run a no-huddle, shotgun offense with a very learnable scheme.
