Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Here is our basic plan...would like your feedback: 4:15 - Individual prep by position 4:20 - Individual Kicking 4:25 - Team Kick (1 per day) 4:40 - Team Option 4:55 - Group Run 5:05 - Team Offense vs. Defense 5:25 - Break 5:30 - Individual 5:40 - Group Pass (skelly / pass pro) 5:55 - Team Defense vs. Offense 6:15 - EOP
* We alternate team periods by day (defense would be first tomorrow). 1 on 1 drills and additional individual drills would be done during athletic periods, although we would work some of that in at times in practice. 2 minute/no huddle is done on Thursday. We split our JV scouts into two groups (1 is good, other is..well, you know)...they provide looks for skelly, group run, team option and any specific team periods we have (i.e. play action; screens, etc). Team periods are always 1's vs. 1's. Don't particularly like having team period in middle of practice....would like your input, coach c. thanks
Pre-practice 1- meeting 2- walk-thru 3- specialties, individual skills work (snaps, handoffs etc) Practice 1 - Warm-up routine 2 - individual 3 - group 4 - group 5 - special teams period 6 - individual 7 - group 8 - team 9 - conditioning Post Practice 1 - meeting or individual work (QB's always condition with additional drops after practice) 2 - film (hoping that players shower before they come to film)
The length of the periods do change through out the week.

Coach C - We use the pass pro period to drill our o-line and F vs. expected def. fronts for that particular week. This is handled by our o-line coach and RB coach while I and the receiver coach work skelly. Protection calls, blitz pick-up and other components of our pass pro vs. def. fronts is drilled...our OL coach is responsible for coordinating this period and adjusts it as needed. As the season progresses this period may be more of walk/jog thru rather than full go. pdow
As I mentioned in an earlier post, we use our Tue/Wed athletic periods to work one on one drills and our OL coach will work with the DL coach to possibly stick a period in at some point during an afternoon practice. I would be interested in how you structure your team periods. pdow

Coach we two platoon our practices because of the numbers we have out. our team periods are scripted and a defense given to each play so that our coaches will always know the type of defense coming and the defenses that should be practiced during their individual periods. We try and run 2 1/2 plays per minute with two squads rotating, both the 1st and 2nd off. I run the defenses because I can get them set fast and gives me to see the eyes of the QB and offensive line. Coach CAmpbell
Coach CAmpbell, we use a segmented timer to divide our practices into (20) 4 minute periods and (10) 5 minute periods. We begin practice with an untimed special teams period where we cover 2 phases of the special teams. We then go into this routine: 4 periods - Defensive individual 3 periods - Inside Hull front seven Vs. Scout O(DB's 1 on 1 w/SE's) 3 periods - Outside Hull DB/LB vs. scout O. (OL/DL 1 on 1 pass rush) 5 minute break (40 min of individual defense) 4 periods - Offensive individual 3 periods - Group work vs dummy d. 3 periods - dummy team (play perfection) big break 15 minutes (40 min of indivdual offense) 4 periods - team defense (20 min) 1 period - team goalline defense (5 min) 4 periods - team offense (20 min) 1 period - team goalline offense (5 min) The OL and DL players are one way only practice with their coach the entire practice. This is the Monday and Tuesday routine. It takes about 2 hrs. 45 minutes.( Varsity staff of 6; JV, 4; Fresh, 4)
Coach Campbell, Coach Carter in RR. We are very similar to how y'all do it at WW. However we use our athletic period to cover Special teams. That way we are touching on them every day. We do every phase of the kicking game every day. It is effective. Usually Tuesday is live kicking versus the JV with an all out rush coming at us. We too feel the kicking game is important and therefore we place a tremedous emphasis on it. We have our afternoon practice divided into 20-24 periods of 4 to 4:30 minutes each. It varies from day to day. Usually Individual for 4 periods followed by Group for 4 periods. Then Break. Then 3 more individual. Followed by TEAM. It works fairly well for us. Talk with you soon.
