I am the track coach here and try to get as many of my fb players out as possible ... no spring fb. Most of my players go out just to be better fb players / athletes. Obviously, we still do train for track, but we also try to lift, do plyos, and quickness drills. It's my nature to overdue it rather than the opposite, which I know isn't really the best way. Anybody have any guidlines you use in a similar situation?
same situation here in Minnesota. We do not have spring ball, but we encourage our football players to go out for track if they are not playing baseball, golf or tennis at a competive level. We lift our kids at least 2x per week and somtimes 3x. We to used to overtrain our kids, and here is what we went to last year for our weekly schedule. We also incorperate some pool workouts for our kids if the weather is cold.
2 meets in 1 week schedule:
Monday: Event specific practice
Tuesday: Track Meet
Wedensday: Light workout - Lift
Thursday: Track Meet
Friday: Power workout and lift
The power workout is a circuit we have set up and the kids love it. Here are the stations.
