Two diferent coaches can look at the same athlete and see entirely different things. They can both look into the eyes of a player and while one sees potential, the other may see hassle. Two can look at a player and at an invitation to coach that athlete and while one sees opportunity, the other may see obligation. Our perspective as coaches and how we view our athletes informs our understanding of our committment to build, develop and bring the best out in each athletes potential. How do you view your team, your fellow coaches, and your individual position players potential. Is the glass half full or half empty. Coach CAmpbell
Since you coaches have coached at the college level... I got a question...
How do you go about calling up the college you want to go to and asking them for walk on try out's stuff like that...
I have the phone number for the recruiting office and everything... What should I say? I have high school videos put together already... Just don't know how to go about calling them up and being like I want to play football here and them taking me seriously...
Am calling this summer and will transfer after one more year... Just want to make my self known...
I guess I am really not sure how to go about doing this...
Help If you want to ask more questions on my situation I would be glad to answer them..
set my self a dead line to call coaches on the 31 of july which is very soon so I would appreciate a college coaches advice on how to go about this.
Unless you are talking about a Division I School, most of the small colleges will give you a look as a walk on.
Since most college teams have limitations on the number of players they can invite to pre-season camp, you will probably need to wait until school begins. At that point, ask to get a shot as a walk-on. If there is a uniform and a locker, you will get a look at most schools.
You may need to prove yourself on the scout team, but this is a great way to make yourself known to coaches and take away the edge that the other players will have that attended camp. Because the scout team runs the opponent's offense or defense, the playing field is level.
Hustle, go hard on every play in every drill of every practice and make plays. Have a can-do, winning attitude and you will at least be noticed. Get good grades and stay in school - this will put you ahead of many others who will not make the grade. Work hard in the off-season and if the school has spring ball, that will be your chance to get a look on "your side of the ball" since there will probably not be a scout team.
I have heard they have walk on try-outs and you do something like a conditioning/lifting and then like you go outside and do cone drills and stuff like that... like for weight lifting I heard they split you up into wieght classes and stuff like that... Maybe you can tell me more about yourself and maybe give me an insight into what I will be dealing with...
I know they have certain camps and such...
I have videos and information on my hieght wieght and speed I am sure If I must I can pull out some stats...
Yeah Just wondering how to go About getting on walk on try-outs...
Calling up the recruiting coach in my area I have the number not sure what to say....
So I should wait till august until I contact them? until school starts? That seems kinda late considering that they will be worried about thier new recruits and new team?
I am transfering there anyway so there is some information hope you can further help me on how do go about doing this...
I've coached at Division III and Division II. I currently coach part time at a D II school.
I really cant speak from experience at the Div I level, but I think many of the same things would apply. You could contact the coaching staff at the school and see what their policies are with walk-ons.
I have always been around programs where the number of players we could invite to camp, due to the cost of meals and lodging, was limited. Once school begins, there's no cost to the school.
