Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I use the I-formation. We have an opponent who plays a 5-2 Robber defense. They put their free-safety 6 yards from the LOS, directly over the center. The SS is also close to the line just over the TE.
How would you attack this front with the run? That robber FS has been our biggest problem.
Coach i know the question was for coach campbell, but a couple of thoughts that come to my mind are to slot your TE and motion him to obtain good blocking angles to the other side, load to the openside, and/or run some kind of speed option to the openside what we call lead option. We like to have our corner come down and crack the FS with our FB blocking the corner.
PASS!!! If they are lining up their FS 6 yards from the line, they obviously have absolutely zero respect for your passing game and respect nothing but the run. Play-action and go deep on them (post routes, seam routes, go routes, etc.) The FS will have no chance of being a factor in the passing game because he is so close to the line looking to tackle on a run. They are leaving their corners on an "island" with no deep help, and your QB and receivers need to take advantage of that gift.
I would pass against that front until the cows came home. No defensive coordinator in his right mind will stay in that defense if he keeps getting burnt for 60 yard TD passes.
