I'm looking for a good rule to teach our playside tackle when we face a 4-3. We are a three wide team, so what we see is basically the 2 outside backers stacked over the DEs, we're reading the 1st defender past the dive back's path, meaning the DE. Should I coach the tackle to block down inside, help with the 3 tech if neccesary, and be ready to seal Mike, or should I have him try to block Sam, with a straight up field move? I'm afraid if we don't block Sam, the DE gives the QB a give read, and the Sam LB is just sitting on the dive back. But if we block Sam, we're left with a mismatch with our Center trying to block Mike w/o any kind of an angle. Thanks for any ideas.

Coach, We have used this rule v. that front: If on the side of the 1 tech. release with the inside foot, dip and rip, and aim straight for the will linebacker, if he stays block him, if he outside release (gap exchange with end), look to the mike and continue to the next level.
Generally when a jet stunt is called the will linebacker will attack straight ahead on flow towards him. So we send our tackle straight towards him, if he is in a normal gap exchange scheme he should leave on the inside release and come up to the outside to play quarterback. So we would continue to work inside and to the next level.
Our base rule for tackles is inside gap to inside linebacker, when we get a 3 technique we will generally duece the 3 to the mike. With a 1 tech. we will ace the nose and veer release the 6(5).
