Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
I know this isn't popular with BIll and Jerry, but we run something very similar to what you do. 2-0-2 with LBs over the tackles. (We will blitz or run stunts with the TNT out of this often) If you read the tackle and attack downhill on the snap from 4-5 yds. You will be in good shape against the counter trey. Any other way, I think you will be slower.
Don't think it is as high as 90% here. If in man and there is split flow out of I, who is covering the FB on PA-pass if both ILBs go with TB?

CUI,
Do you also walk a LB up as a stand up 7 tech. ? Seems it would be tough for MLB to get a read off the OT who has man in either gap, e.g. if he blocks down on the 3 tech. what does that mean?
This directly out of the Univ. of VA. defensive play manual when defending the counter trey:
GUARD DOWN AND BACKSIDE PULL-SPLIT FLOW (COUNTER PLAY)
1. READ GUARDS HELMET AND COURSE TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN SLIP BLOCK AND DOWN BLOCK.
2. EITHER SEE OFF SIDE GUARD PULL OR LISTEN FOR PULL CALL FROM OTHER LB.
3. ONCE YOU RECOGNIZE PLAY, ATTACK IT AND PLAY IT THE SAME AS YOU WOULD POWER PLAY. OSLB WILL KICK BALL TO OUTSIDE.
4. BE READY FOR BST OR FB IN FAR POSITION TO BLOCK AS YOU ENTER INTO LOS.
Sorry I have been slow with my response as promised but have been swamped with requests from coaches all over the country with diverse problems from X& O's to how to rebuild a team. Hope tihs helps you.

Coach Scott,
We do not walk up a 7 tech LB. We would have the DT over the OG, the ILB over the OT, and the DE/OLB over the DE. His read is the same as reading a guard. We give him C gap, DT has B and DE is contain / D gap.
Do you stay in your 46 defense a lot of the time?
Coach Scott - who covers the back you mentioned STRICTLY depends on the COVERAGE played (& whether or not you are "UNDER-KEYING" an O-Lineman for a give away)! WHAT COVERAGE ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
NOTE: Vs good play action teams - go "0/MAN" & bring A LOT OF HEAT!
PS: IF you feel compelled to key ONE back OR the other - here is the method that every good defensive coach I ever met (HS/COLLEGE/PRO) uses: In looking at film of your opponent - chart WHICH BACK leads you to the POA the highest PERCENTAGE of the time, & KEY HIM! We glean this info from film EACH week for use IF we need to key one particular back! CP: IF you are playing man/under vs. an "I" - each ILB takes the back that comes his way on passes (in ZONE - it doesn't matter).
We base out of the 46 look. First put it in as a change-up but it worked better than anything else, so we now install it from day one in August. Our weak-side DE is in a two-point but other than that it is the Ryan 46. Not sure about next year as the HC may be going elsewhere (I might too if he does).
