Attacking the 46 defense

I'm a wing-t man myself. One thing I've noticed is that sometimes you have to cut plays down a hole. The DE crashes in so hard, that instead of running 121, we go with 122. The only blocking assignment that changes is the WB. Going weakside with 187XB or 187 On helps along with their complimentary option plays. Once you get that going, play-action will open up.

Coach vs the 46 or Bear defense its good attack it with the inside veer week the midline and load strong, but no matter what the key is the ability to get the ball on the perimeter quick or it the midline fast because once you break the second level the defense becomes very weak. The 46 is a pressure defense with 9 in the box so take the ball outside or hit quick inside. Coach CAmpbell

When I was the offensive coordinator in college we were a wing -t team on the evolvution to an option team. The year before I got there alot a 46 was played.

All these ideas are good. A couple of others that worked for us were:

Double option to the t-back side: (No TE)
t - back seals the baox (ILB around the end) Fb wraps for the free safety. QB opens and pitchs off weak 5 tech. there's nobody there,
Tackle bumps 3 tech to BS backer. Everybody else reaches.

Power to the TE:
Influence out your te on there wide man. Against wing - t they like to keep the FS in middle of field (If not we would package this) Open his split ( P.s. Tackle, Block PS Guard, Center block back. Pull and seal backside guard (he'll usually get to free, wing walls)

Triple to the T (Almost always a give. Playside HB seals the backer outside the handoff key. This usually influences the 5 tech and the backer out. fb can run all day.

If FS in Middle or Check Belly keep pass to TE / wing (If free over te go to SE) combine this with power and the 7 tech playing man will have to glance back - make him cover the te deep.

You can also run 83 - 87 gut release if free in middle (7 man on te) TE and wing run keep pass / gut the guard and the tackle and give the ball on the belly to the FB - THere is nobody there.

Just some ideas - these plus a good 3 step game and we hardly saw 46 again

oh yeah. the non - te plays go end over to the boundary - the will flip corners - it's a foot race with the free to the field. i'll take that everytime.

use shifting and motion. make them adjust 46 teams hate this

also go tackles over (down / down option ) usually get soft 7 here.
(Release the HB to deep 1/3 (M/M player)

go end over tofield / tackle over to boundary and run down / down option to boundary they will be a man short.
