Coach,
I play fullback and when me and the tailback are up field and there is only one more defender to get by, should I block him straight up and let the tailback decide which way to go or should I chose a direction?

Attack his outside jersey number and then let the back read the defender for best path. By attacking the outside jersey number you either will stretch the defender or get him hocked. Coach CAmpbell
I agree with Coach Campbell. We say "step on the toes" which means run right through the defender's outside shoulder. You can throw your hands as you are near enough to step on the defenders toes. Don't throw early because you may end up grasping air, or grabbing jersey, in which case a penalty. If the defender plays "olay", so be it. He is now out of position and the RB should be able to make the right decision. If not, change positions with him, and you make the cut.
