Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
Did anybody see the Mon night game? Pittsburgh used a 2 back gun set. Tossed the ball to the Right HB and he ran the Shovel with the left HB. It is a nice little change up for you 2 back gun coaches.

Coach I run this with our offense and call it 18 - 19 Crazy Option. Towards the play the Qb reads the 5 tech. if the 5 tech comes up field he then shovels the ball of to the backside back who is running at the inside shoulder of the 5 tech or off the down block on his OT. If Def. end or 5 tech. closes then the QB is running speed option against the outside invert. Coach CAmpbell
Does the invert make the play on the shovel underneath? Or even if he does, is it already a nice gain? Are you sending the double option ptich man to the invert in the shovel pass is made?

The two back gun is a great weapon. As your QB reads the backside defensive end for give or pull read you will have no problem if the ball is pulled and the QB brings the ball out to the invert. The reason the ball is pulled because the 5 tech is reacting down because of the offensive tackle, this leaves the QB and pitch pack on a two on one situation with the invert. Coach CAmpbell

Coach the QB reads the end if the end closes down on the endside release by the tackle he then will pull the ball replacing the defensive end and thats how you would word your teaching progression. What happens is that teams vs gun runs will put the end down inside playing the run and then scrape backer and outside invert to the speed option coming out especially if you go gun with two backs. Coach CAmpbell
The invert must stay outside as he has pitch responsibility. We are seeing the 5 tech widen and attack the quarterback. Our QB made a great play when the invert attacked the FB on his shovel path. The QB saw this and pitched to the TB. Beacuse the invert went inside, there was no one left for the pitch man. This is not how we draw it up, the QB reacted to the stunt.
Coach Campbell-How would you run this vs. a 50. We are getting an eagle weak at times and a 5-9. Do we read the 5 for the shovel and pitch off the 9? Or, do we run inside read option to the 5-9 on the open side? Could we run the bump scheme on this if the OLB is filling on the FB?
Sorry Coach, I replied to the wrong post, I was referring to the Crazy Option. If inside back is aiming for the inside jersey number of the end, where does QB go to?

Coach on crazy option the QB will shuffle outside the end to try and widen him with the backside back coming underneath replacing the defensive end looking for QB to shovel the ball off to him. If the end does not widen then the QB then turns up field running the spped option with the back to his side. Let me know if I can help you further with this play. This is a good football play and if you do run the gun you will luv it. Coach CAmpbell
Sounds great. Shouldn't be hard for us, as we run a 1 back shovel now. What is best formation vs. 5-3/5-2 monster to use it. My guess would be wide slot,(hopefully my thick head is starting to get this.) Coach, I know it is a long way away from now, but do you have spring ball, and if so, are you open to another coach/staff coming fro a couple of days to sit, watch, discuss etc.
Coach we ran it last night in a JV game. WE installed it right before the game and it was highly effective. The 1st time the shovel was there but we didn't pick up the backside LB. The 2nd time we ran it, we went with the speed option and scored from about 40 yds out. We ran it about two other time with nice gains. What a great play.

Coach the nice thing about this play is that it can be run either side because you have both back, each aligned to either side of the QB. The real key is to slot you tight end or run it into a twins look on the outside. Coach CAmpbell
Coach we are running this with great success and the kids LOVE IT!!! I have a question for you, if you end up shoveling the ball have you ever had your pitch back get into relationship and option off the corner or is it asking for too much? Watching it develope, I could see the potential but know we have to get the LB sealed off to ease my stomach. I don't think I'd want to make a living off of that little twist but if a big play is needed late, I could see potential. Have you ever tried this?

Coach I'm glad you like this play because it's a good one. Coach inregards to the pitch coming off this play if you feel that the pitch is potentially there then go for it, if not take the 20 yard gain and run it agin for another 20. We all need a few potential trick plays, if it times out go for it. Coach Campbell P.S. no haven't run this one yet with the pitch coming off the shovel

A great way to help with the scraping LB's is to block the shuttle the same way as POWER, only you option the DE, not kick him with your FB. That way your shuttle back has a lead blocker (the pulling guard). The guard helps by looking inside for a backer, and if no one scrapes over the top, he just stays on his track to pick off little guys. This same blocking scheme can help block up lead option, shuttle, and crazy option from gun. We also run veer from the gun, but we just happen to have a phenom QB, a huge FB, and a very fast TB. Veer uses the same POWER blocking scheme, so the FB has a lead blocker if the QB gives.
The pulling guard really helps young QB's with the DE/Will games when the ball is run to the 1,5 side of a 4-3. If the will and DE exchange gaps, the WILL is blown up by the pulling guard. With just this 1 blocking scheme, we run 12+ different plays from 2 back gun. You need to motion the FB around a bit, but 12 plays are easy to get, and it's just one blocking scheme for the line.
