WHAT TO DO?

This is a tough one, but playing the best player is the out. Something that will help is if you lay out the situation to all your QBs now informing them of the need to establish a depth chart based on performance in the offseason, in the weightroom, and on the field going into the season, regardless of grade. Tell each player what you need them to improve in specifically to be competitive and let them know you will evaluate and decide what the order will be before the first game and open other positions to those who want or will need to move. They may feel you are not honoring "earned jobs by experience or years in the program", but telling them your expectations flat out makes it fair and if they are as good as they think, then they will deliver. But either way you control the situation. This way you put it on the kids to make their play for the role, keeps you free to make an honest evaluation, and forces any overly "comfortable kid" including the starter into a working harder mode to earn a job. Every position on the field is this way, why should QB become an entitlement position? Good Luck!
