Installing Today’s Hybrid Pistol Offense Run & Pass from Top to Bottom
This manual provides you with the full offensive line, receiver, and quarterback mechanics for installing each offensive play presented. Coach Campbell has left no stone unturned for implementing today’s Pistol Offense into your program.
We use a number system...each position is assigned two motion numbers...for instance, Z is 1 and 2; H is 3 and 4; F is 5 and 6. Odd numbers designate a left side of the ball release point, while even numbers designate a right side of the ball release point. We don't do any return motion or anything like that...we short motion an outside receiver or long across the ball...here is an example "Ace Rt 139 Zone" (Z motions from right to left across the ball). "Ace Rt 238 Zone" ( Z short motions and releases on the right side of the ball)...the receivers must understand the concept of the play and the play itself dictates the specific release point.
We also using a numbering system, but it is based on the hole numbers. We number our holes as 1,3,5,7,9 to the left and 0,2,4,6,8 to the right with the higher numbers being to the outside.
For motion, we would call the letter of the position who is going to motion and send him to the exact location based on the hole.
EG: Right, Z7 23 iso. This is an I-pro formation with the Z receiver motioning across to the left, but ending up as the inside receiver. The play is a Tailback iso to the left. This would be done, if they bump a LB out with the motion.
EG2: Left twin, F9 96 seam. This an I-pro with X/Z to the right (twin), Y to the left. The Fullback (F) motions to the outside receiver spot on the left(F9). 96 means a 3 step drop with a fade. The tag of "seam" tells the inside receivers on both sides to run a seam, instead of their normal arrow (quick out) for 96.
Yeah that is pretty helpful. I am a second year coach and I will graduate college in 2 years. After that I will be pursuing a head coaching position. The 2 systems I have coached in have used different motion calls, and I have read some stuff from different colleges as well, but I want to stay away from having a lot of chatter in the huddle with calling the play.
Coach we are using Jerry's system, and it is working great. Z motion is Jet, Slow Jet, Re Jet, TE motion is Tom, Re Tom, Slow Tom, etc. Works real well with no confusion and if doesn't confuse my guys it can't be confusing.
Coach, We use 3 digits for our formations so we need words for our motion calls. We use Zip, Zap, and Zoom for Z. Yankee is for the tightend, and Xray for the split. Rip and Liz are for the fullback, and Rose and Load for the tailback. We also use early to set pre snap motion for our backs. If we want to start out in doubles for example we would say E Load 471 fade. This allows us to get every man in motion with no confusion. Hope this has been some help.
